The Woman I See
The world is quick to define a woman by what it sees her do. I have learned to look beyond that. Her work may tell you something about her life, but never enough to tell you who she truly is.
The most visible parts of a life are often the easiest to turn into definitions.
Work, past decisions and difficult chapters can tell us something real about a person. But knowing something about someone is not the same as understanding them.
A role does not show how a person treats others when nothing is expected in return. It does not reveal what she values, what she carries quietly, what she hopes for, or the parts of herself she has managed to keep intact.
Looking beyond a label does not mean pretending that our choices say nothing about us. They do. They simply do not say everything.
Perhaps seeing someone clearly begins when curiosity lasts longer than judgement.
